About
Hi,
Welcome to my It’s Digital Marketing blog.
My name is Gary Robinson and I work for Jobsite, an online recruitment company in the UK. We run a wide variety of recruitment websites, including one of the market leaders, Jobsite.co.uk, plus regional and niche industrial brands. It’s worth pointing out that this blog is completely unaffiliated with Jobsite and all opinions here are my own and not representative of the company. That said, bits and pieces of the work we do will appear in the blog every now and again because, well, it’s what I do.
I’ve been in the industry for 10 years and in online marketing for 9 of those and have seen it evolve tremendously in just that short timespan. When I started we used to accept job listings by fax machine – I would type them up online – and we would send out CVs to recruiters on floppy disk each Wednesday. Nowadays, everything is automated and simple for the user – despite the complexity of the magical technology that is making it all possible behind the scenes.
My remit and skills have changed significantly over the years – being able to turn your hand to a variety of things is something growing with a startup teaches you. I have worked in product development, email marketing, copywriting, customer service, communications, brand development, print advertising, planning, strategy and people management, among others.
A number of projects I have been heavily involved in have been nominated or won industry awards, which is always nice, so I recommend you check them out:
BeMyInterviewer – interactive video service for interview practice with leading industry figures
RecruitRank – rate your job hunting experience with recruitment agencies
Personal Profiles – based on Spiral Dynamics, understand your priorities and motivations and be happier in your job
My current focus is more digital, with an emphasis on aquisition strategy – encompassing natural search marketing (SEO), paid search advertising (PPC), online display advertising, aggregators and multi-variate testing.
Our PPC support for our October ‘08 / January ‘09 TV Branding campaign has been shortlisted for a NMA Effectiveness Award, which is a great reflection of the work our internal search team and agency ISpySearch have carried out to make it a very successful venture.
That aside, I’m still heavily involved with the site development – it’s one of those areas that once you start looking, you just can’t stop tweaking. We have some pretty exciting developments on that front coming soon – one of which is my baby, which like the real thing is exciting and scary.
Feel free to get in contact through the site, either by posting a comment or using the contact form below. Where possible I’ll answer any questions you may have.
Thanks
Gary Robinson
